Chlorodiphenylphosphine (Ph₂PCl, CAS 1079-66-9) is an aryl P(III) chlorophosphine with a highly electrophilic P–Cl center, enabling clean nucleophilic substitutions with R-MgX/R-Li, amines, or alcohols to form P–C / P–N / P–O bonds for tertiary phosphines (Ph₂PR), phosphonium salts, and other phosphorus ligands/intermediates. Supplied as a colorless to pale-yellow liquid/low-melting solid, it is soluble in toluene, THF, CH₂Cl₂ (insoluble in water). Moisture-sensitive and corrosive, it hydrolyzes releasing HCl and oxidizes in air to diphenylphosphine oxide—store and handle dry, under inert gas, using compatible equipment and following the SDS.
