Product Description
Styrene Monomer (SM) | CAS 100-42-5 | Premium Industrial Grade
Product Overview
Styrene Monomer (SM), also known as Vinylbenzene or Phenylethylene, is a clear, colorless to yellowish, highly volatile, and flammable oily liquid with a sweet, floral odor. It is one of the most vital monomers in the modern petrochemical industry, serving as the essential building block for a vast array of plastics, synthetic rubbers, and resins.
At Shandong Yinglang Chemical Co., Ltd., we supply high-purity Styrene Monomer (≥ 99.8%) that is professionally stabilized with TBC (tert-Butylcatechol) to prevent unwanted polymerization during transit and storage. We provide secure packaging and strictly compliant Dangerous Goods (DG) logistics for global distribution.
Technical Specifications (COA)
Below are the standard specifications for our export-grade Styrene Monomer:
| Appearance | Colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid |
|---|---|
| Purity (Assay) | ≥ 99.8% |
| Inhibitor (TBC Content) | 10 - 15 ppm (or customized per client request) |
| Polymer Content | ≤ 10 ppm |
| Color (Pt-Co) | ≤ 10 |
| Moisture / Water | ≤ 0.05% |
Key Applications
- Polystyrene (PS) & EPS: The primary raw material for manufacturing General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS), High-Impact Polystyrene (HIPS), and Expandable Polystyrene (EPS), widely used in packaging, insulation, and disposable consumer goods.
- ABS & SAN Resins: A core monomer in Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) and Styrene Acrylonitrile (SAN) resins, essential for automotive parts, electronics housings, and durable appliances.
- Synthetic Rubber (SBR & SBS): Copolymerized with butadiene to produce Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR), the standard material for vehicle tires and conveyor belts.
- Unsaturated Polyester Resins (UPR): Acts as both a reactive monomer and a solvent in the production of UPR, used extensively in fiberglass-reinforced plastics (FRP) and marine coatings.
Packaging & Storage
We provide tightly sealed, UN-approved packaging tailored for highly flammable and reactive liquids.
- 180 KG Galvanized Iron Drum / Steel Drum
- 20 - 22 MT ISO Tank
Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, well-ventilated, and temperature-controlled Dangerous Goods warehouse (ideally below 25°C). Styrene is highly reactive and prone to exothermic polymerization. Keep strictly away from direct sunlight, heat, sparks, open flames, and strong oxidizers. The TBC inhibitor level must be monitored if stored for prolonged periods.
⚠️ Safety & Handling Information
- Hazard Class: Class 3 (Flammable Liquid)
- UN Number: UN 2055 | Packing Group: III
- Handling: Highly flammable liquid and vapor. Harmful if inhaled; causes skin and serious eye irritation. Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child. Handle only in well-ventilated areas or outdoors. Wear appropriate PPE (chemical goggles, resistant gloves, and respirators). Ensure all equipment is grounded to prevent static discharge.

FAQ
Q1: What documents and certifications do you provide?
A Standard shipment includes COA (Certificate of Analysis) and MSDS (SDS). We also provide ISO 9001 certification and support third-party inspections like SGS or BV upon request.
Q2: Do you provide custom synthesis or formulation services?
A Yes. If you have specific purity requirements or a unique formulation, our R&D team can provide custom synthesis and adjust the stabilizers/inhibitors to meet your technical specifications.
Q3: What are your terms of payment?
A
For Orders ≤ $1,000: 100% in advance.
For Orders > $1,000: 30% T/T in advance, and the balance before shipment or against the copy of B/L. Irrevocable L/C at sight is also acceptable for bulk orders.
Q4: How long is your price valid?
